Free Dog Water Bottles for Miami's Vet Clinics

The Whisker Bark Hydration Drive

We're donating our portable water bottles to nonprofit and independent veterinary clinics around the Miami area, the clinics dog owners already know and trust. Each clinic gives them to their clients at no cost, so more dogs have water on hand during the hottest months of the year.

Why We're Doing This

We're based in South Florida, so we know exactly what walking a dog here in August feels like. The pavement holds heat well past sunset. The humidity never really lets up. Dogs feel all of it before we do, and they can't tell us when they've had enough.

The good news is that most heat problems in dogs are preventable. Water during the walk, not just before and after, goes a long way. Rather than run a campaign about it, we decided to put bottles directly where they'll get used: in the hands of the vets and clinics Miami dog owners already visit.

How It Works

There's no signup, no purchase, and no catch.

1

We donate bottles at no cost to nonprofit and independent veterinary clinics in the Miami area.

2

Clinics hand them out to their clients however works best for them.

3

Dogs get fresh water on their walks. That's the whole project.

A Few Things That Help in This Heat

  • Walk early or late. Before 9am or after sunset, when the pavement has cooled down.
  • Do the pavement test. Back of your hand on the sidewalk for seven seconds. Too hot for you means too hot for their paws.
  • Bring water every time, even on short walks. Small amounts offered often beat one big drink at the end.
  • Know the warning signs. Heavy panting, drooling, sluggishness, or bright red gums mean stop, find shade, and offer water. If it doesn't pass quickly, call your vet.

This Is Home for Us

Whisker Bark started here in South Florida, with one dog and one problem to solve. The Hydration Drive is a small way of looking out for the rest of the city's dogs. If you want to be part of it, as a clinic or otherwise, we'd love to hear from you.
