What You Need Before You Measure
How to Measure for the Right Wheelchair Size
Measurement - 1
Sitting Depth
Where to place the tape: Measure along the floor beside your dog, from the back of the rump to the tips of the front toes, while your dog sits upright.
Start and end points: Start where the rump meets the floor. End at the front toes.
Common mistake: Measuring while your dog is standing or lying down. Your dog must be sitting upright with the front legs straight under the chest.
Measurement - 2
Widest Point
Where to place the tape: Measure straight across the widest part of your dog, usually the shoulders or the hips.
Start and end points: From the outer edge of one side to the outer edge of the other, straight across.
Common mistake: Measuring around the body like a belt instead of straight across.
Measurement - 3
Sitting Height
Where to place the tape: Measure from the floor straight up to the top of the shoulders, while your dog sits upright.
Start and end points: Start at the floor. End at the highest point of the shoulders, not the top of the head.
Common mistake: Measuring to the head, or letting your dog slump. Hold a treat just above eye level to keep them sitting tall.

The Whisker Bark Bailey Chair is designed for dogs with megaesophagus. It holds your dog seated upright through the meal and the rest period afterward, so food moves down by gravity instead of you propping your dog up by hand three or four times a day.
Built from birch plywood with cam lock hardware that stays tight through daily use, a reinforced base and bowl tray, and an extended base plate so the chair stays planted when your dog leans in. The finish is water resistant and scratch resistant, so spills wipe off instead of soaking in.
The front door opens and latches, so your dog walks in instead of being lifted. The bowl sits in a cut-out opening that holds it in place. Handles on both sides for carrying.
Fit matters more than anything else here. A chair that is too large lets your dog slump sideways, which defeats the purpose. Use our sizing tool before you order, and message us if you are between sizes.
Ships flat with all hardware. Assembles in about 20 minutes. Backed by a 1 year warranty.
Estimated delivery between September 13 and September 16. Order within .
FAQs
Yes, and we recommend it. Before you assemble anything, stand the front door panel next to your sitting dog. The top edge should sit at or below their shoulders. Lay the side panel on the floor beside them and check that your dog's sitting depth fits within it. If either looks off, email us before you pick up a screwdriver, because we cannot accept a return once the chair is assembled.
Reach out before you assemble it. Because the hardware drills into the panels, we can only accept returns and exchanges on chairs that haven't been assembled yet.
If you're unsure about sizing before you order, or the fit doesn't look right when the box arrives, email us at contact@whiskerbark.com with:
- your dog's three measurements
- a side photo of your dog sitting upright
- a rear photo, straight behind, sitting
We'll confirm the best size and guide you through the next steps.
The tape should sit snug against your dog’s fur without compressing it. If you pull the tape tight, your measurements can come out smaller than they should, which can lead to the wrong size. When in doubt, measure twice and write down both results.
Choose the larger size. A chair that sits a little tall can be solved with the Booster Platform, but a chair your dog cannot physically fit into cannot be fixed. Our sizing tool applies this rule automatically, so if you enter your measurements it will already recommend the larger chair.
Yes, measure over the fur, but don’t compress it. Thick coats can add a little extra volume, so the key is keeping the tape snug and consistent. If your dog has a very dense coat, take a second measurement with the fur gently smoothed down and compare both numbers.
Try measuring when your dog is calm, after a short walk or before a meal. Hold a treat just above eye level to keep them sitting tall, and have someone help hold them in an upright sitting position with the front legs straight under the chest. If you cannot get perfect numbers, take a few quick measurements and use the largest consistent result.
Yes. If you’re unsure, send us:

- A rear photo (straight behind)

Always measure with your dog sitting upright on a flat floor, rump flat and front legs straight under the chest. Every measurement for this chair is based on the sitting position, so standing measurements will not match the size chart.
